Announcements:
- Greg invited members to the Colorado Choir's Holiday concerts to be held on December 2 and 6. Greg and his wife Pat have been involved for 25 years. Pat as the accompanist and Greg as a member. Contact Greg for tickets for the concerts to be held at Augustana Lutheran Church at Colorado Blvd and Alameda starting at 7:30 p.m.
- Marg McDonald, principal of Sandburg Elementary, was introduced by Paul. She told members how much of a difference we make to her students with our literacy/reading program. Informational packets were passed out to the new participants of the program. Paul announced that volunteering will begin next week.
- Hank told members that he and a fellow pharmacist at the Southglenn Walgreen's are still offering flu shots. The best time is between 2-4 p.m. and cost $25.
- Kent introduced two visiting Rotarians, both Jims. One from the Highlands Ranch Club and one from the Rampart Club, just outside Colorado Springs.
- Jeff started a signup sheet around for the January 20th Foundation dinner and speech by R. I. President, Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar. He implored many to sign up, as he is committing our Club to three tables!
- Tom passed around the final signup sheet for our Holiday party to be held on Saturday, December 10. He also shared with us that Ben Bridge Jewelry, spearheaded by Yong, has donated a piece of jewelry appraised at $1000 for the party.
- The Board meets on December 7 at Pete's bank.
HAPPY BUCKS:
A sampling of generous Rotarian's reason for giving money--
- Marg started out Jennifer's collection in thanks for our reading participation at Sandburg.
- Pete gave a buck thanking visiting Rotarian from the Springs for the idea of using a picture postcard as a "makeup" card for visitors.
- Frank gave thanks in the form of money for the reason for Thanksgiving and the joy of family. Frank was serious, quite frightening.
- Mark echoed Frank's feelings about family and Thanksgiving.
- Randy gave two bucks but Jennifer wouldn't let him explain.
- Jeff because the Denver Club and their Branch Rickey award was written up in the Rotarian magazine.
- Hugh gave a buck, (although Jennifer felt it should've been more) because he is happy he is getting smarter every year.
- Roxy monetarily echoed Frank and Mark. She also thanked Marcos and his family for taking the sister of Nady, an exchange student staying in Wyoming, to the Nuggets game Friday evening.
- Bryan introduced our speaker, Kelly Arter, National Marketing Director for Juice Plus.
Kelly gave an excellent presentation on nutrition and how we are sabotaging our body and our kid's bodies as well. She spent twenty minutes talking about the do's and don'ts of eating and meal planning. If you didn't fill out a "health" survey or ask her for her card, you never would have known she was selling anything.
Marbles:
Our nattily dressed attorney, Ken, had his ticket drawn. He "unfortunately" drew a clear marble and the pot continues to grow. Congrats to Pete for his "color" scam when selling the raffle tickets today.
