Centennial Rotary Meeting Notes

Greeter--Kent
Custodian--Pete
Pledge--Randy
Invocation--Roxy

Announcements

Visiting Rotarian--PDG Loy Dickinson.

Rotary Minute by Kent--Reminded us about Vocational Service month and he also gave us the origination of the 4-way test. It was started by a member of Chicago One when he took over a failing company. The test was created to help the employees with their morale.

Greg's father passed away last week after a brief stay in hospice.

Marcos and visitor Cliff Dougal shared with us information about how we will help the Denver Children's Home this holiday season. We are asked to bring toys/games etc. for children ages 13-18 before December 10th. This project will address many members desire to work in our local community.

Bob S.--Polled the club to decide on the date for the Willow Creek open space we police for trash every 6 months. The 27th of October was tentatively chosen. We meet there at 5 p.m. ish and will go to have pizza afterwards.

Lori--Met with District Pres-Elects and DG elect Frank Sargeant recently and asked members to volunteer for her year's board and Pres-Elect for the 2007 Rotary year before December 30th. She also called on members to help the Arapahoe Library District with their plans for the future by filling out a survey.

Roxy--Passed out invitations for a Centennial Airport fundraising movie. She also asked Club members to tell Barb they will donate just $3 to help Rotary International with the annual float for the Tournament of Roses parade. This the most visible way we show to the whole world Rotary. Ed note: I tear up each year when I see OUR FLOAT and I'm sure all do!

Barb--She has maps for this weekends chili dinner at her home.

Kay--Project Cure project needs only 6 volunteers each month. Colorado Christian University volunteers are joining us in this wonderful Community/International project.

Randy--Asked notetakers to give their notes to him after the meeting so he can get the newsletter out ASAP. Tom B.--Holiday party is December 10th. Don't forget that Jeff will auction off all our travel gifts to help us have more money for local community projects.

Our Speaker:
Marion Jenkins--Founder and CEO of QSE Technogies, Inc.

A personal note: I am going back to pencil, paper and the abacus. Marion spent a riveting 20 minutes sharing with us the ins and outs of computers and the mess they can get us into. He started out with the fact that there are two kinds of computer users, those that have been hacked or viruses and those that will be. He told us that the Internet was hatched in 1969 when Stanford, Cal. State Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and the University of Utah linked together. Right now the cost of viruses is in the Billions of dollars and security is an afterthought. Hardware failure/power loss is the number one reason for computer failure and the number two reason is human error. The main reason for viruses, hacking, phishing and other computer "bad things" is that it is now big business. Bad guys follow the money and we must protect ourselves. Currently Symantec lists over 70,000 different viruses. The easiest and most obvious way to protect yourself with computer "bad guys" is: if you wouldn't do it in the real world, don't do it on your computer. Marc G's birthday is October 13th--Happy one bone-adjuster.

Marbles--Paul's ticket was the winner and Mark Gale, as proxy, thankfully drew a clear marble. This week's pot was worth $396.00. Remember, your purchase of marble raffle tickets benefits our Club's local community service projects. Try to never turn Pete down, plus he has a fragile ego.
