Announcements:
- Ken Hope gave a report on last Sunday's "Families First" picnic that was spearheaded by scholarship recipient, Karli Wurpel. Although the event started off slowly, by the time all left for home at 4:45, over 50 pigs were painted and adopted. Ken explained that parents and kids alike had a blast painting the ceramic piggy banks, that will be filled by the adopting families to raise money for the charity. He thanked Rotarians, Barb, Roxy, Ben, Kent, Marc Garfinkel and Randy. Kent's family was there the whole time and were very helpful. Families First will track the pigs adopted and let us know how much money was raised. Great job Ken!
- It was announced that this is the final week for the Macy's shopping fundraiser. Get tickets/money to James now.
- Barb shared with us that "Wild on Littleton" netted over $2800, a grand more than last year. That net is after giving the Chamber their 25% cut. Way to go Mark Gale.
- Randy let the members know that at the Zone Institute over a dozen DG or DGE's expressed interest in the Invocation Book.
Happy Bucks
- Mark Gale wandered throughout the members collecting money for happy things.
- Pete gave a buck in thanks for the Rotarians at the Families First function.
- Jennifer, another dollar for the Buckeyes win last Saturday.
- Dan H. gave two for visitors D.G. Frank and A.G. Mary Kay.
- The perpetual scooter gave money for the obvious and for Mary Kay.
- Kent coughed up $5 for losing a bet to Jennifer.
- Mary Kay gave a happy buck for joining us.
- Frank L. gave money for mental abuse, lack of hair and "no clue."
- Jack for scooting.
- Hugh for their son returning from England soon.
- The collector for Ken Hope's pink shirt. He was wearing the same color.
- Ken H. for the camaraderie on Sunday at the park.
- Jeff in welcoming DG Frank, his wife Sherry and Mary Kay. A recent knee replacement recipient himself, he told us that Sherry had both of her's done the same time.
- D.G. Frank for the Ohio State win, Frank L's missing hair and the incredible Mary Kay.
- Laurie gave $2 for the visiting dignitaries attending both last night's Board meeting and our breakfast meeting.
- Jeff gave a brief talk about the Rotary Foundation. He has signed up another one of our members, Barb, to the 83 Penny Regiment. D.G. Frank has set a District goal of $1,000,000 for this Rotary year. By donating just 83 cents a day or $300 for the year, the District can meet that goal. As you will read in the program part of this epistle, the Foundation offers the best business deal ever. Please contact Jeff and complete a pledge card. You will receive the 83 Penny Regiment lapel pin and be part of our largest fundraising effort for the Foundation ever.
Program
District Governor Frank, after a great introduction by Laurie, praised our Club for what it has done, what is planned and for our frivolity and friendship. He also saluted our President, past President and the Board. He recognized two years ago that our Club has fun and gets things done He gave additional praise to A.G. Mary Kay and said that she always gets things done.
His main points were:
Membership--Rotary revolves around individuals and what keeps the Rotary machine going is membership. A 5% increase is important.
Foundation--There is no better business deal, a 4 to 1 return on Foundation donations. The main reason he has set his goal at a million is that the giving three years ago was low.
Meeting the goals of R.I. President Boyd that include Water, Literacy, Health and Hunger and the Family of Rotary projects.
6000 kids a day die because of bad or no water. There are 2 billion people that are illiterate. There are health and hunger problems both locally and internationally. Our District has earned attention from Coke for $50,000 for water projects. Don't forget that when Rotary took over the Polio project, there were 350,000 cases and now less than 4000.
Our District sponsored over 259 literacy projects last year.
Colorado ranked 50th in inoculating children and now rank 17th because of the Rotary project, Shot for Tots.
Please plan on attending D.G. Frank's District Conference at the Antlers in the Springs April 20-22. A great way to celebrate Laurie's leadership and our Club!
Marbles
Randy had his ticket won, donated the $10 to Frank for his lunch program for the underprivileged and promptly drew a clear marble. There is a bunch of money to be won. Buy tickets each week.
Missing members know who they are and we missed you. Come back next week.
