Announcements

President Jennifer visited Hank and he is doing well. He is in the hospital until Friday, August 24th and after will be at home for about six weeks. He would like visitors – please call first.

President Jennifer presented Charley Jackson with his Blue Badge and listed his numerous contributions to the Rotary Club of Duncan, Texas. She also reminded the Board of the September 6, 2007 meeting at her office.

President Jennifer announced a joint meeting of the Membership and Business Expo committees at her office, Wednesday, August 28th at 5:30 pm. Food will be provided. Also, the Rebuild Together activity will take place October 6, 2007.

President Jennifer reminded everyone to continue selling Peaches. The deadline for orders is September 4th and delivery is on September 8th.

Mark Gale thanked the Rotarians who volunteered at the NSCD race. The volunteers included Jennifer, Dan Hoopes and his son Jonathan, Roxy and James, Randy, Marc Garfinkel (he did not let anyone get food without a ticket!), Mark Gale, Laurie, Charley and Mary Alice. And a bonus, we were able to give the excess food from the race (blueberries, bananas, power bars, and hot dogs) to Sox Place and The Denver Children’s Home. Randy’s family room probably still smells like blueberries and bananas. Kent Ostedgaard participated in the race.

Roxy asked for interest in collecting non-perishable food for Interfaith. As there was enough interest, she will proceed with planning the volunteer activity.

Happy Bucks

  • Marc Garfinkel visited Hank
  • Dan R presented his travel gift and correctly guessed Marc’s presidential question – What were George Washington’s teeth made of? For answer – come to a meeting and find out!
  • Paul gave a scooting buck and a sad buck for the Broncos preseason loss.
  • Kent O moved his son, Garrett into the dorm at CSU and helped daughter Megan set up her room for her new teaching job! He shared that he was surrounded by women in the NSCD race – he is now convinced that he is irresistibly attractive to women runners!
  • Kyle’s husband has taught their daughter to shake her head and say “It’s only preseason” while watching the Broncos!
  • Jennifer was thankful that Robert brought the projector for our speaker. A second buck because her Dad is coming to town.

Program

Our program was presented by Claudia Janiszewski, Founder, Organization for the Support of Albania’s Abandoned Babies (OSAAB) - The Angel’s Cradle Program. Claudia described the amazingly successful programs the organization fostered with these abandoned babies. Through their patience, education, corporate sponsorship, and fund raising these babies have come from a place of stigma and rejection that resulted in poor health, delayed development and a high percentage of mortality to a place where they are healthy and in demand for adoption.

Blue Marble

Laurie drew a clear marble. The amount of the pot was not known – Pete will update us next week.
