PROGRAM

Our speaker was Judy Rose. She is a volunteer for East Elementary. In the past she was involved with television production, SSPR and the Colorado Lottery.

She became involved with East Elementary when members of her church were invited to volunteer. Now she is a fund raiser for a school park.

East Elementary is located “in the hub of the working poor.” 79% of students are on the student lunch program. Many in the school participate in the English as a second language program.

The City of Littleton has agreed to write a grant and if enough money is raised to build the park SSPR agreed to take on the maintenance obligations of the park. The current park on the property is 50 years old and in dire need of improvement. 30% of students at this school are from Centennial.

She believes the budget for building the park will be about $200,000. But she has to check the details with SSPR. Judy is asking that we donate a small amount to the park with a letter that shows our commitment. The letter will help her secure larger donations and funding.

It bothers her that the families in the community don’t have a decent playground.

MARBLES

Randy Pote won the drawing. Ben picked the marbles for him; both were white.
