Centennial Rotary General MeetingOn Tuesday, January 21, 2009 Greeter--Sandra Hank rang the bell at 7:30 to a well-attended meeting with lots of camaraderie. AnnouncementNOTE: NEXT WEEK’S MEETING (1-27-09) IS NOT AT THE EMBASSY SUITES!!!!!!!!!!!! Rotary MinuteKent reminded us about RYLA and Young RYLA. Applications will be accepted until mid-February. Also, he asked to continue collecting General Mills’ "box-tops". They are on all GM products and Ziploc as well. Charlie gave a thoughtful presentation and congratulations to Andres for his Paul Harris Fellow. It was noted that Andres has made this contribution in less than a year from his joining Rotary and he is also a Sustaining Member. (May we all follow his example) ed. note Randy was honored to induct and welcome our newest member, Jacque Wedding-Scott. He gave her a Red Badge while delivering commentary about the history and service of RI. She received a framed 4-way test, member Certificate and a copy of the Rotarian. Pete had the honor of officially "pinning" Jacque with her new Rotary pin. She then gave us a brief bio of herself. She is a second generation Coloradoan, her Mom was a "war bride" from Austria, has two golden retrievers and a very responsible job of City Manager for our City. She expressed her pleasure in the way all our members have welcomed her. The new Care committee gave a big thank you to members who supplied Cathy with food during her last chemo treatments. She only has one more set to go!!! The Foundation board will meet this Friday to interview the scholarship candidate. 7 a.m. here at the hotel. All are welcome. If you have a red badge, attending a Foundation meeting helps you get closer to your RED badge. A Fireside will be held on January 29th at 7 p.m. at the Pote’s home. It is highly recommended for all new members, but open to all. Kent will run the hour-long session. He will give overview of Rotary, info on our Club’s projects and Charlie will talk on the Foundation. The address is 7381 E. Hinsdale Court, three blocks north of Dry Creek on the east side of Quebec. COSH grand opening--Katherine passed out "engraved" invites to "her" hospital, Colorado Orthopedic and Surgical Hospital’s ribbon-cutting event. It will be held on Friday, January 30th beginning at 5 p.m. Pete brought back (FROM OVERSEAS) several cool travel gifts. Please keep up this tradition. HAPPY BUCKSAs usual, many members offered happy and thankful thoughts/cash including; President Obama PROGRAMRoxy gave an extensive demonstration and explanation of our Club’s website, www.bestrotary.com. If you don’t have your password to get into the members-only section, please contact Roxy. Diane presented an exceptional power-point (and detailed hand-out) on our Club’s 2009 membership campaign. It is designed to build, strengthen, increase and retain our Rotary membership. Every current member of our Club needs to be on the alert for potential new members. WE ARE ON A ROLL--GET INVOLVED!! MARBLESRoxy drew her own ticket and thankfully drew two clear marbles. The pot grows.
