Centennial Rotary General MeetingOn Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Custodian--Paul President Hank rang the bell promptly at 7:30. Kent was asked to do guest introductions, but there were none. He then proceeded with the: Rotary MinuteHe spoke about Rotary’s high school program called Interact. There are presently Club’s at Cherry Creek, ThunderRidge and with a little luck, we may get to help sponsor one at Grandview High School. Hank shared details with us about his recent trip to the Baltic. Peaches--Jennifer shared with us the deadline for sales is Tuesday, 8-26. Delivery is still slated for September 6th in the hotel parking lot. Next week’s meeting will be held at the Sky Ridge Surgical Center, Conifer Building, Suite 100. Hank will provide bagels and coffee. September 2 will be our first "evening" meeting. Greg is handling the details with the hotel. It is a perfect opportunity to invite friends/ co-workers and potential new members. With your Rotary badge, drinks will be available and the hotel will provide snacks. We will meet in the hotel atrium at 5:30 p.m. A sign-up sheet for the Rotary sponsored "State of our State" speech by Governor Ritter was passed around. Barb will bill anyone who attends. September 16th will Hank’s first Club Assembly. Andres told us of a trip to Nuevo Laredo to officially "open" the stretcher elevator we helped make a reality. It will be on or near the end of October in order to coincide with the Chili Club that was also involved. He invited members to travel with him to celebrate the project. More details to follow. Jennifer presented Kent with the 4 Avenue of Service award. She highlighted all the projects Kent helped with or spearheaded. Randy passed around the signup sheet for the Second Wind project Sept. 21st. Hank shared with us the cool travel gifts he brought back from his trip. Happy Bucks
ProgramJodie Schrier from the American Heart Association and Life Line Screening. She shared with us the many aspects of heart health and the signs of stroke. 75% of strokes are due to arterial plaque. Women are much more susceptible to carotid artery disease than men. Docs won’t test for it often. Plaque build-up can be genetically passed on. She shared with us the symptoms of potential stroke. You should know your risk factors and modify bad behavior. She did say that all silent killers are preventable. Health One is a huge supporter of AHA and Life Line Screening. Jodie gave Kent and Hank a certificate for free screenings worth $149.00. Greg and Randy won a $50 screening. MarblesLaurie had her ticket drawn and lo and behold--DREW BIG BLUE. She will take home the $10 plus $180.00 Congrats Laurie. Remember--we are off campus next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
